Paratiisisaaret odottivat valloittajia! Lentokone kiersi pääsaaren Mahén kuin esitelläkseen vihreän keitaan keskellä turkoosia valtamerta. Lentokentältä päästyämme iski reppumatkailijan arki. Meidän piti itse selvittää, miten pääsisimme majapaikkaamme. Onneksi heti ensimmäinen taksinkuljettaja tiesi, missä se on. Auton ikkunasta ihailimme maisemia, jotka olimme nähneet yläilmoista. Keskellä saarta lähes kilometrin korkeuteen kohoava vuori Morne Seychellois sai meidät haukkomaan henkeä. Loimme myös ensisilmäyksen pääkaupunki Victoriaan ajaessamme majapaikkaamme Calypha Guesthouseen. Seuraavaksi ohjelmassa oli tutustuminen pääkaupunkiin. Päätimme myös selvittää, mitä kiinnostavia kohteita löytyi Mahélta sekä läheisiltä Praslinin ja La Diguen saarilta.
Paradise islands wait for the conquerors! The airplane circulated to the main island Mahe as we see the green … in the middle of turquoise mighty ocean. ... We have to find out how to get to our hotel. Luckily right away the first taxi driver knew where it is. From the window we admired the scenery that we saw in the air. In the middle of the island mountain Morne Seycheelois, rising about a km high, took our breath away. We also got our first glimpse at the capital, Victoria, when we were driving to our hotel, Calypha Guesthouse. The next program was to get to know the capital. We decided to find out what interesting places can be found in Mahe and the neighboring island of Praslin and La Digue.
Suuntasimme muutamaksi päiväksi Praslinille. Majapaikkaamme etsiessämme kävelimme rinkat selässä puoli tuntia väärään suuntaan ylös jyrkkää rinnettä. Majapaikka Le Colibri yllätti kuitenkin myönteisesti. Huoneet olivat siistejä, terassi tilava ja maisema kuin postikortista. Praslinilla ohjelmassa oli snorklailun lisäksi saaren tärkein nähtävyys, Valle De Mai -puisto jättikookospalmuineen, ja sen lähistöllä sijaitseva upea näköalapaikka.
We were headed to Praslin for a couple of days. While searching for a hotel, we were walking with backpacks on our back for half an hour to the wrong direction up to a steep hill. However the hotel Le Colibri was a surprised in a good way. The rooms were clean, terrace roomy and the scenery like a postcard. In Praslin the program was … in addition to the most important sightseeing, giant coconut palm in Valle De Mai Park, and the gorgeous places near it.
Parin päivän päästä oli vuorossa puolen tunnin laivamatka viereiselle La Diguelle, jonka Anse Source D'Argentin väitetään olevan maailman kuvatuin ranta. Paikka olikin todella hieno, mutta ruuhkainen.
In a few days it was the turn for half-hour boat trip to visit La Digue, which Anse Source D’Argenti claimed to be the most beautiful beach on earth. The place was really great but bumpy.
Palasimme Mahélle ja toiseksi viimeisenä lomapäivänä lähdimme majatalon isännän järjestämälle kalastusreissulle Victorian edustalle. Kalaa tuli todella helposti. Parin tunnin uurastuksen jälkeen veneen pohjalla oli kymmeniä kaloja, joukossa kaksi barrakudaa. Saimme isoimmat kalat mukaamme ja kysyimme majatalossa mahdollisuutta saada niistä illallista, mutta emäntä valitteli kiireitään. Jätimme kuitenkin kalat hänelle. Yllätys oli melkoinen, kun emäntä toi terassille loistavan illallisen, jonka hän oli valmistanut pyydystämästämme barrakudasta. Matka ei olisi voinut huipentua hienommin.
We came back to Mahe and in the last but one day we went to a fishing trip organized by our host to the front of Victoria. Fish came really easily. In a few hours there were 10 fish, in which two are barracuda, on the boat after trying. We got bigger fish with us and asked the hotel if it’s possible to use them for dinner but the hostess complained about the rush. We left the fish to her anyway. The surprise was big when the hostess brought the wonderful dinner to the terrace which she prepared for the barracuda we asked for. The trip wouldn’t end up better than that.
